Back to School 2013

The big one, the first day of all day 5 day Junior Kindergarten! We tried to go to bed a little earlier than normal the week before, but really we just dove in head first and I hoped for the best when waking up my little night owl and sleep in way late girly!

But when you love school as much as Shelby then it's no big deal to be at school by 8:15!

When we explained to her that she gets to go to school every day until 3:15 she just started jumping up and down and screaming. She couldn't believe how lucky she was!

At first she wanted a Princess Sofia backpack until she saw the Stratford school one they gave us at Parent Orientation. So we put a girly ribbon on it and some pretty tape on the Stratford water bottle and were ready to go!

Mrs. Bean was the co-teacher in her preschool science club from last year, so we already loved her. I also observed her Jr. K class last year when I was deciding between sending Shelby to Kindergarten or Jr. K. Her August birthday meant that she didn't qualify for the T K program at the public school, but at Stratford they gave us the option. Her preschool teachers said she was ready. But I prayed about it and felt this was the best option for her. Trevor (november) and I (december) and my brother Richard (october) were always the oldest in the class and loved it, my Mom (october) was always the youngest and has said it was hard being so little! And in Jr. K, Shelby will still have science class with Ms Sandy, her favorite teacher. After looking at all the pros and cons, Jr. Kindergarten was the clear winner!

#10 Another big bonus of Jr K? Only 11 students in her class! Oh and there are 2 sets of boy twins in her class. Good luck with names Shelby! Her best friend from preschool, Grace, has an October birthday so she also chose Jr. K!

Someone was SO excited to have her own desk!

Mrs. Bean has been great about sending pictures to parents. :) Looks like Shelby missed the all girls in yellow and a jumper memo! Also...uniforms are AWESOME! She loves them.
And what did we do on the first day of school? Well we met our friends Jessica and Hayden for lunch and a little Hobby Lobby visit. I love how it looks like they are on a date! Haha!

Then Cora took a nap, I blogged, and she did a topless piano performance.

Then we sorta just looked at each other. I'm going to have to get some pointers from Shelby on how to keep Cora so happy! Mommy's a little boring compared to big sister.

When all else fails, Ice cream!

3rd outfit of the day for Cora. So happy to pick up Shelby!

Day 2. School for her, Happy Hollow for us
Shelby woke ME up because she was so excited to go back to school!

\
Her favorite thing? Playing on the big kid playground now!

Missed sister much?

Someone didn't make it through after school errands!

Day 3

A stick! Yippee!

That night Trevor hosted the teachers and priests for a planning meeting/xbox party. I could not believe  how many starbursts those boys could eat!

Here's the first week of school lunches. Shelby loves her planetbox lunch box and it really makes it fun for me to organize it all cute every morning! Stratford is nut and seafood free because of allergies, not that Shelby even likes tuna or peanut butter. Every day she alternates between a cheese sandwich with mustard and mayo or a mini bagel with strawberry cream cheese! That's it! Luckily she eats all her fruit and veggies so I'm not worried.

Bunny was her friend while Shelby was gone.

On Friday the first week, Mrs. Bean said it was fine if we celebrated Shelby's birthday in class. So we went to Party City and Shelby picked out little gifts for everyone. We brought our leftover tinkerbell and pirate napkins to serve the mini brownie bites and powdered donut holes. Shelby said she did not want me to come back and help, that she could do it on her own. Okay! You're the birthday girl! Luckily Mrs. Bean took a few pictures of her with a birthday crown on! A great ending to a great first week of school!
