for family home evening the monday before halloween, we finally took shelby to the pumpkin patch "with the bounce houses." she had been begging to go all month! it was all she dreamed of and more! while shelby jumped, cora and i picked out some pumpkins.
baby girl loves to try to lift things while saying "strong?"
shelby especially loved the tiger slide. that's her in the jack-o-lantern shirt.
when we got home, trevor carved a surprise on the pumpkin.
at first we couldn't tell what it was...
OH! it's elmo!
awesome job daddy!
the day before halloween, i let shelby wear whatever dress up clothes she wanted all day long. here we are at costco dressed as "a moonlight fairy ballerina from space!"
we checked out the Christmas dresses and presents
i think i wanted this bear even more than she did!
and she really thought that grandma cindy should get this for her nativity collection.
after buying a TON of candy for the next day's trick or treaters, we couldn't leave without first getting the greatest pizza and diet pepsi in the world.
my little ballerina put a smile on many fellow shoppers faces. we were having so much fun that i decided to take the girls to another pumpkin patch!
because we couldn't miss out on taking pictures in a giant orange chair.
shelby sized and cora sized. little sister always wants to be like big sister.
then we rode the train-in a big circle-ha! but it was still fun.
shelby learned from watching the big kids that the cool thing to do was just run on top of the maze.
cora was a little nervous about the maze but was so proud when she got to the end and yelled one of her favorite phrases that we hear often: "i did it!"
cora was very mad that the door wouldn't open no matter how many times she knocked!
time for more running!
their energy never seems to run out!
too soon it was time to go home and rest because tomorrow was halloween! finally!
HALLOWEEN 2012
"here we come along in the halloween parade...." i sang the same song at my school!
love the live piano!
shelby decided to be sleeping beauty and there was NO talking her out of it. i had no idea when we got her the costume in Disneyland back in May that she would wear it in October!
someone spotted grandma cindy!
some of the parents were kind of intense, chasing their kids around.
they made me feel better about the amount of pictures i took!
i loved how every single teacher and administrator was dressed up!
i was grateful to have a free hand to take pictures with while cora hung out with grandma.
thank you mom! love those polka dot pants!
time to go to the auditorium stage and for the class halloween performance!
we had been hearing shelby practice for weeks!!!
the teachers pulled out a few kids to stand in the front, i wasn't sure if this was for a reason until they started singing and i saw that it was mostly the front row doing all the work-singing every single word with all the motions.
such a cute class! i love the variety of costumes!
so while trevor videoed, i took some pictures and basically just felt pure joy.
THIS is why i became a mom!
BEST. HALLOWEEN. EVER.
she knew every word and every move and sang loud and proud with her little friends.
after each song, when everyone clapped, she would do a little bow. it was so funny!
SO MANY CAMERAS!!!! HA!
and i wouldn't have been able to record any of it without mom's help with cora. thanks again!
afterwards they had a class party!
it was fun to meet the parents of shelby's bestest friends.
shelby was so excited to introduce her "baby sister" to all her friends and asked for seconds of everything so that she could share with cora.
as always, cora was a little ham and made all her friends laugh.
we each brought something, i brought carrots.
but one mom brought homemade, perfectly executed cake pops! wow!
all cora cared about was the watermelon. sometimes that's all she will eat.
two sleeping beauties, deep in coversation.
how do you know you live in the bay area?
when instead of isabella or madison or emma, there are two girls named priksha in your class!
getting to wear a princess dress to preschool. life doesn't get much better.
i had a pumpkin costume, a wondergirl costume, as well as a cute rapunzel dress for cora.
but she refused to wear any of them. so i said she was a ninja. :)
shelby's best friend kara (pronounced car-a) riya the halloween fairy!
shelby gets mad if i say it wrong!
she loves schooooooool!
hugs!
miss sarah. she's so nice! she's my hero-
two kids the same age as mine except she looks like that!
here's shelby and her other best friend gracie, who is dressed as a "cowgirl cat" so she said!
the cutest.
here are the three musketeers with miss sandra, their other awesome teacher. she is the nicest and also has 3 kids. oh and she has a masters degree! private school kicks butt!
when we got home, we started getting the house ready for
our big halloween debut in the neighborhood.
it was the first time we were ever staying home and handing out candy!
giants fans are so lucky that wearing their gear doubles as a sort of halloween costume. trevor is sporting the 2012 world series champions shirt i had picked up at costco the day before.
they were already running out!
we were told by neighbors to expect around 300 kids at our house. shelby set up a camping chair and wanted to wait outside for them to come.
eventually i convinced her to come inside because it was chilly. a watched pot never boils!
since trevor thought we looked a little too friendly at our house,
he downloaded a spooky mix on itunes and had it playing all night.
he also set up one of the fog machines that his dad gave to us.
i'm more of a non-spooky decoration fan, but i'm supportive!
i can't
get
enough of this cute face!
even though the girls seriously hadn't eaten any candy, i feel like there was sugar in the air because they were crazy excited!
we calmed down just enough to have a snack and watch a bit of "spooky buddies."
but what do i see here? is it a bird? a plane? it's certainly pink...
look! it's wondergirl!
i had to use my wonder-mommy powers of persuasion to get out of the sleeping beauty costume.
wonder girl also had a wonderful affect on her little sister, because as soon as shelby was dressed, cora demanded to put on her matching costume.
Wonder girl and Super baby to the rescue!!!!
super baby wasn't interested in trick or treating, which worked out fine. she stayed back with grandma and grandpa, while trevor and i went with gracie and her parents around the neighborhood.
we were the first ones out on the block!
they were so good at saying thank you!
at 4 years old, shelby really got it this year.
she also got more candy than grace because she wasn't scared of a single house! almost everyone in our neighborhood had decorated their house, it was SO fun.
can you believe she was brave enough to get candy from that guy?
trick or treat!
we have so many shelby drawings of frankenstein. he's a favorite! one of the houses had a garage full of arcade games that everyone could come in and play. another house handed out whole candy bars!
this one had hundreds of little tea light candles on their lawn! it was beautiful.
as it got dark, the party really started and there were kids EVERYWHERE. we tried to take cora out, but there were just too many big kids, and she just didn't care. after gracie left, some of the neighbors came over and wanted shelby to trick or treat with them too. so i went out again! but after a few houses, shelby said she couldn't walk one more step, so we turned back. another reason was that she wanted to help grandpa rich hand out a hundred dollar's worth of candy! 300 kids was accurate. my dad was at the door for three hours! shelby set up a little pink chair right by him and helped put the candy in the bags and direct traffic. she was in her element for sure. seriously, i don't think she ate more than one piece of candy that night. she was wayyyyy more into handing out the candy!
she barely touched it afterwards! she's just not that into candy.
but she is into coloring pictures with her sister.
oh how they love to color! here they were making pictures to send to uncle brett in his mission package for that week.
it was hard to let go of halloween for this one.
she drew witches, pumpkins, and spiders for weeks afterwards.
and after all that commotion, we took a much needed day off and just hung around the house.
being a stay at home mom is the best!
