Discovery Kingdom

on saturday, april 2nd we visited Discovery Kingdom in vallejo for the first time! the last time i had been there it was called marine world and i was in elementary school. so lots had changed.
i had kids of my own this time, so that was new. and there weren't any of my fellow 6th grade classmates there shoplifting from the souvenir shop. they were a classy bunch.
it was the first time going anywhere all day with two kids and it was my first big day out "exercising" (there were lots of hills) since having surgery. also nursing in public is never easy. but oh my gosh shelby was so excited and that's really what's important! she even got to eat pink ice cream for lunch which is a sure way to make her smile.
grandpa curtis and grandma kathi came with us and got fun rides for themselves and for shelby. :)
she loved riding with her grandparents on their sweet scooters.
it was a gorgeous, perfect day. not too hot and not too cold. for us the park was all about the animals. we weren't going to waste our time on rides! we saw a bird show, a tiger show, and a dolphin show. then we found this fun attraction.
you could feed the seals! who could say no to that cute face? we all love seals so it was perfect.
grandpa curtis found a great spot.
 and the seals followed.
shelby even got to drop the fish in. it was a more exciting moment than meeting her sister.
awesome daddy made sure to wash her fishy hands afterwards.
side not: my addiction to yellow for shelby may be permanent.
 cora LOVED the penguins.
but if you don't love penguins you may have a heart two sizes too small.
i wanted to reach over and pet them so badly!

 as did shelby of course.
at least she could pet these bad boys. the girl has no fear.
swimming with the rays would have been her first choice.
pictures can't express how huge this walrus is. unbelievable. trevor and i ran out of adjectives.
their walruses are famous because 50 first dates was filmed here. they also told us that a baby walrus was due to be born soon, which hardly ever happens with captive walruses. it was big news for zoo people. for me, seeing a pregnant walrus was good for my self esteem.

then, the greatest thing happened. we found the shark exhibit, the reason we had come to the park!
at first shelby could barely speak she was so astonished at the sight of the SHARKS!!!!!
but then she couldn't stop talking about it and she went through the exibit a total of 6 times.
we actually sold our house and now live there.
 please come visit anytime!
my baby loves sharks. she's one of a kind.
after the sharks, we went back to see the dolphin show again. trevor and i were laughing so hard. here's why: discovery park went bankrupt at one point and so now every single thing in the place is sponsored by some company (bathrooms, lamps, chairs, everything). aloha airlines sponsored the dolphin show and it was so cheesy and funny. "look at these dophins fly high, just like you can fly high on aloha airlines!"  ah, then it came time for the forced family picture.
"please trevor? it's all i've ever wanted in life, just one family picture"
 or two
 or three
then they abandoned me but trevor is my best friend and was nice enough to take some pictures of me with my cute new accessory.
my husband always takes the best pictures! but why the long face cora?

see? be happy like grandpa curtis!
the last stop of the day before the parked closed was the whale show.
trevor had been looking forward to it all day and possibly his whole life. he's wanted to see one since seeing the movie free willy as a kid. i loved that movie too. though not enough for me to boycott this show or anything.

even though both the girls were freaking out after a long day, we were not leaving until we saw that dumb whale finish his show.
there is something about it that turns you into a little kid.
you can't help but say, wow! did you see that? amazing!
thank you discovery park for the super fun day!
