my friend lauren was the first person i told about my pregnancy at church. it was extra fun since she was due just a few months ahead of me! i got to help with her darling shower. by help, i mean show up with some food. a girl at church named cassidy did all the decorations herself!
the food turned out awesome. we had spinach artichoke dip, chopped bbq chicken salad, miniature fritatas, apple/proscuito/brie on baguettes, rosemary rolls, creamy chicken pasta salad, grilled rustic bread/tomato/basil salad, fruit and veggies, and asian sesame chicken salad (from me: confession, it was from panera bread! the shower was 2 days after we got back from disneyland in november
so i didn't have time to do the homemade route.) then for dessert there was a pumpkin chocolate chip cake with cream cheese frosting, chocolate covered strawberries, and a variety of miniature tarts from whole foods-like lemon meringue, chocolate raspberry, fruit, and pecan pie (from me, though even if i would have had time i couldn't have made tarts like those!). hungry yet?
i was also lucky enough to be lauren's go-to person when she went into labor! i carried my phone everywhere, into the bathroom, put it on the loudest ringer when i was in the shower, and i would wake up at night and check! she was set to be induced on monday, december 6th, but a little before 8 am on saturday, december 4th i got the call to come and get bella! lauren was talking to me in between contractions while curling her hair. she looked fantastic! luckily the hospital was two minutes (literally) from her house because she had her cute boy at 9:54 am!
we had bella over for 2 days, though she went home at night with her daddy.
shelby was so happy to have her "best friend bella" over to play for so long!
they didn't even fight over who got to wear which dress. bella was in a blue phase because of her baby brother coming, and shelby is pink 4 life.
they twirled and danced and rarely if ever fought over the same toy.
bella is just a month and a half older than shelby, and both of our families moved into the pleasanton 3rd ward at the same time, like the same exact sunday. we also got married the same year and missed being in the same married ward at byu by a few weeks!
the big difference now is that lauren is a good wife and made a boy! :)
for weeks afterwards shelby would randomly tell me, "bella went to see beckam!" and i would ask her about the baby in my tummy and she called it beckam too. and every time we open the front door (still!) she looks and then says, "oh, no bella." we have finally gotten shelby to call my belly baby sister though.
i texted lauren a picture of these girls, and later her husband told me that he showed her while she was in the midst of pushing so that she could know that bella was having fun. :) it sure seemed like she had a good time!
since it was a wintry, cold day we made great use of our tile floors. bella rode the bike and shelby rode her ladybug around and around. those cute princesses!
then it was back up the stairs for more playtime.

hopefully bella can give shelby some pointers about being a great big sister. though when they hang out mostly they twirl around in circles, fall down, and then do this funny fake laugh together. not much time for serious conversation about helping out mommy with a little baby.
