the magic kingdom

there is something about walking on main street that absolutely gives me goosebumps every single time. we caught the tail end of a little mini-parade which was the only glimpse we got of any parade during our trip. that's another family thing, we aren't the type to sit and save spaces and wait for any parade. we usually use that time to get on rides or we just plain miss it. maybe when shelby is a little older she might make us wait for one. but until then we just focused on fun rides!

we were on a mission to get through this hot, busy spring break disneyworld trip!
shelby was ready!
the very first thing we did after entering the park was to stop and get our very favorite treats. we dream about them. and we even waited in line for them! luckily uncle richard was there to entertain shelby and check out the swiss family robinson tree.
the treats are from this aloha isle refreshments area in adventure land.
but we don't get the pineapple ones, we get the orange and vanilla soft serve swirl. mmmmmm.
though the dole pineapple juice and pineapple soft serve always look good too.
but we had to get the orange. it's the best.
at first dad didn't want one, until he had a taste of mine and then i didn't get it back! small price to pay for an awesome walt disney world trip! so the first ride we went on was the jungle book cruise. we always go on it. once mom was wearing head to toe yellow (it was the 80s) and the guide said that the gorillas were going to get her because she looked like a banana. anyways, we really thought shelby would enjoy this ride and the line was supposed to be 20 minutes.....

the hotel had a "first time" button waiting for shelby when we got to orlando. i made sure to bring it with us even though she wouldn't wear it. but she did like to play with it. here is richard showing her all of the characters.

i love my button!
and my uncle.
here mom, put the button right here
what do you mean i will take it right off!? no i won't. (she did)

the line ended up being much longer than 20 minutes. but lucky for us shelby fell asleep on her daddy. everyone thought it was very cute. it is so funny to be in a curving line for a long time. there is that awkward smile and shrug that you give to the people that you pass 10 times but don't talk to...it's pretty fun.
luckily there were lots of strong men to take turns with the baby.
eventually we made it on the cruise. then there was the dilemma, should we wake her up? what if she cries and makes a scene? grandma and grandpa made the call though.
they woke that baby up. check out her sleepy head hair!
luckily she woke up very happy and excited. how could she not?
so, the animals were slightly less exciting than the real ones outside our hotel room. :)

but it was still a great ride. and those animals haven't aged a day!
definitely a successful first magic kingdom ride! hooray!
next it was on to pirates of the carribbean. we were very excited. and shelby wasn't scared for a minute of the ride! though, sad to say, the rest of us were so annoyed because the lady in front of us wouldn't stop taking pictures. that's why they say no flash photography! 'cause you can't freaking see anything! so trevor asked her to stop, but the lady was super rude and yelled at him, in front of her little children that she would not stop. so i asked her please to stop, because it made it really hard for my little tiny girl to see on her first pirates ride ever and could she pretty please at least turn her flash off? she did not reply, but she did turn off the flash and kept taking pictures. oh man, it was annoying. but we didn't let some mean lady ruin our trip!
afterwards we stopped and said hello to a mighty fine captain jack impersonator.
and then we stopped and got some delicious food. i had a chicken blt flatbread sandwich. about the food at disneyworld: it is amazing. seriously, it is so good, and the variety is insane! i am being serious. also, they have so many healthy options, like grapes and carrots always for kids and lots of salads. and at our hotel they only serve chicken sausage and turkey bacon (yes, i consider that healthy). everything was just extra awesome. now i'm hungry.
