the graduate

going back to provo was so fun! all of my memories are so rosy and happy now that we have been gone a few years. i think i annoyed my family by getting excited over every little change in the town!

but we weren't there to just re-live our college days, we were there to celebrate Richard's graduation from the BYU Marriott School of Business!

RICHARD L. THAWLEY II
graduating class of 2009

thursday's big graduation ceremony:
instead of sitting with the 6,000-ish graduates, richard sat with us so that we could enjoy it together and so that we wouldn't be late for our dinner reservation. :) Elder Nelson (a leader of our church) spoke and did an amazing job. He talked about the current economic climate and gave encouragement to the graduates. He said that we will see more ups and downs in the future.

President Samuelson (the president of the university and a leader in our church) spoke and he also gave President Uchtdorf (one of the top leaders of our church) an honorary university degree! he was so grateful and excited and funny!!! when he was a 747 pilot for Lufthansa he would come on the intercom and point out special landmarks. he told us when he flew over Provo he always said "we are now flying over the world famous Brigham Young University!" his daughter and son-in-law graduated from BYU 19 years ago 6 weeks after they brought home twin baby boys (who are now on missions). WOW! also, he was so sweet talking about how much he loves his wife.

belmont memories...
totally random: trevor's honda that he sold before we left for florida was parked by richard's apartment! here he is looking lovingly at his cute little car. he was driving it the first time i met him right near that parking space actually (remember heather hickson?!? such a matchmaker)

shelby didn't seem too interested in my stories about our old apartment. maybe someday!
man, those three love pictures!

the big ceremony:
and by big i mean that thing took FOREVER!!! it was a little painful but totally worth it! HOORAY FOR RICHARD!

shelby is so proud of her uncle, but she still wouldn't wear a bow. those days are gone.

nice smiles!

proud parents!

ladies, he's available!

we missed you so much brett!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to Richard! I can't believe that he's graduated! That makes me feel really old! I can't believe that it has been 6 years since I graduated! How fun to go back to Provo! I haven't been back since Heather and Jared's graduation.
