FOUR FOUR FOUR FOUR

the day shelby had been waiting for had finally arrived.
august 15th-her fourth birthday!!!

i woke up nice and early and quietly decorated her room
and blew up 20 balloons!

i think for a bit she thought she was still dreaming.
the girl barely slept because she was SO excited.

cora was ready to party too!

time to get ready for the birthday party!

cora even wore a headband for a few minutes! she's wearing a hand me down from shelby that i still totally adore. it's daddy's favorite dress to because it's so soft and bright!

and don't you love her makeup?

she's a pro. is 18 months too early for eyeshadow?

while daddy and shelby went to pick up shelby's (and mommy and daddy's) favorite PINK breakfast-strawberry bagels with strawberry cream cheese from bagel street cafe-cora and i picked up the cake!!!
it's so beautiful! shelby had so much fun picking it out.

she couldn't have loved it more!

safeway bakery, you guys rock!

she also wanted princess cupcakes-
and her wish was my command!

now, if there were sleeping beauty-only decorations, i would have done that, but for some reason she is always in multi-princess things. (cinderella and ariel get their own stuff though! lame!) but shelby really likes all the princesses and sleeping beauty is just her favorite.

since our house is small, and since it was on the market-we didn't want to make a big mess. so grandma cindy and grandpa rich graciously allowed us to use their house! it ended up being such a crazy day, dad was meeting with some business people visiting from florida and utah during the party (they all had kids so they thought the party was cute luckily) and my parents also found out that they got the house they wanted in saratoga! so they were signing papers and doing things and it was just fun times for everyone!

shelby had been planning her day for some time.

she had started with pink, then wanted ladybugs, then added fairies, and finally princesses.

i did my best.

the fairy part were those wings in the picture before, and some tinkerbell stickers! by the time it was her actual birthday, she was already moving past her fairy phase. and actually, if her birthday would have been this month i bet she would have wanted a ninja turtle birthday! the whims of a 4 year old.

what i did know was that i wasn't going to make the same mistake as last year. i kept it small. just the four girls from her church sunbeam class- so perfect, 4 friends because she was 4. though everywhere we went, shelby met people and wanted them to come to her birthday party. random kids at the park or at target or wherever-"i want her to come to my parteeeeee!" funny. but she was adamant-"but no boys, only daddy."

and we said, what about grandpa rich? she said maybe. since he got her the bouncy house and it was at his house, i told her that she should probably invite him!

i emailed all the moms and asked them which princess were their girl's favorite, so that i could be prepared for overlap (meaning fighting over favorite princesses) and so that i could customize their goodies. it was perfect since each had a different favorite. after seeing these at target, i just had to get them and put each girl's favorite in her goody bag.

shelby picked out cora's pink cupcake shirt for her,
and my cute (always attached to momma) girl hung out with grandma so that i could run the party.  i can't wait until we find out who her favorite princess will be!

grace was the first to arrive. favorite princess: snow white
her mom said that she was ready at 8am to come to the party.
it started at 11!

they put on their fairy wings, tutus, and ran to the bouncy house!

time to bounce!

then bella arrived!
favorite princess: belle (naturally!)

it wasn't hard to get them to pose in front of the sign.
they were excited to take pictures with the princesses!

yay charlie's here!
favorite princess: ariel

grace got into her goody bag right away and ate her first candy bracelet within minutes! i was impressed!

yipeeeeeee!

baby fairy had fun inside playing and watching elmo-though she was very territorial about her dvd player. if anyone else tried to watch it she got very upset! "elmoooooo!"  "mine!" "no!"

after bouncing for a bit, the girls headed in for some craft time.

it was pretty casual, i just had bowls of stickers, little sticky ladybugs, crayons, etc. with paper wands and coloring pages to decorate and let them go to town.

then hunger struck!

since i am my mother's daughter, i had wayyyy too much food! i made a dill dip and a marshmallow fruit dip. i gave shelby both but she kept dipping her cucumbers in the marshmallow! it's her birthday and she'll do what she wants!

present time!

charlie picked out a super cool ariel bath time barbie! wow!

shelby loved it and ariel has bathed with her every night since!

next was bella's gift

can you believe shelby's face? adorable. bella had gotten her a cute pink hanging bird decoration from pbkids for her new room. bella got one for herself too so that they could both have them and so that shelby could have something "to remember me."
i cried a little.

here's bella reading her card she wrote.

oh yeah! grace knows her present was totally awesome!

it's a play dough princess castle toy where you can make dresses for all of your favorite princesses! i had actually thought about getting one for shelby so i was excited too! fun!

poor prince beckam!
he handled being the only boy at the party pretty well.

let's get the singing going! shelby's face is all pink because the girls had been upstairs running around and playing, then they all decided it was time for cake and the 4 little fairies came marching down the stairs chanting "cake! cake! cake!" so loudly and every adult in the place could not stop laughing! 4 year olds are the best!

the happy birthday song has always been her favorite part!

happy birthday big girl!

make a wish!

naturally they all wanted their favorite princess' cupcake!
yum! sugar!

then it was time to for more bouncing!

and chasing. grace had to run out the door soon after.

later, shelby told me the princess bounce house
was her favorite part of her birthday. :)

these girls sure love each other!

cora was a big fan of the fruit platter.
she seemed to have a piece of fruit in her hand all day.

peekaboo!

thanks for coming charlie!

august 2012
hope you had fun!

august 2009
here they are at shelby's first birthday! :)

shelby didn't have time to be sad that two of her friends had to leave because right then her 4th invite, cami, came with her mom and two sisters, emma who is 6 and olivia who is 1. so we had daddy take the dangerous job of holding the pinata! it was an america's funniest home video just waiting to happen!

shelby loved cheering for her friends
and lining up her ladybugs for everyone to stand on.

go bella go!

trevor, you are such a multi-tasker! eventually we just ripped that thing open, inside were awesome princess candies and toys.

such cute friends!
shelby LOVED having them over to her grandma's house to play with all her toys.

cora, not so much.

cami's little sister olivia is just a couple months older than cora,
so hopefully someday they can play!
today was obviously not that day.

cute cami! thanks for coming!
favorite princess: rapunzel

our little princess. a big 4 year old now.

since we had so much food, we of course had to call the leftover food brigade, also known as the missionaries. it didn't take much convincing to get them to take off their shoes and...

jump in the bounce house!

one of them even did a flip while the other took pictures! i'm sure their families enjoyed the random princess jump house in their email from that week. oh california missionaries. :)

it made us all feel a little closer to uncle brett. we were sure to tell him all about it in our letter that week.

as an extra present to shelby, bella got to stay after the party!

they watched shelby's new movie-the lorax-
up in grandpa's movie theater!

bella looks so sad to have to leave-but she was actually really ready to go. her mom told me that she fell asleep in the car on the way home and later even had a fever! shelby knows how to party, try to keep up bella!

back to the bounce house. nice undies!

she wanted to move in.

cora was a wee bit nervous about the whole bouncing thing.

that's a love tap shelby is giving her...

shelby wanted some pictures with sleeping beauty
and then she wanted to take the pictures!

my turn again! she sure loves the camera.

thanks for all the help today grandma!

she kept trying to play hide and seek- kinda hard to do.

bouncing was a good workout!

me and my girl.

i clearly think she's amazing!

and this one is amazing too!
but it was time for her nap-and for some dinner too.

even shelby took a little snooze-wow.

after a quick bite of round table pizza, shelby was on to opening grandma and grandpa's presents. first up was this disney princess wedding dress! an ensemble like that put her in a dancing mood.

this one's going on her wedding reception slide show for sure.

mmmmm. leftover cake is the best!

"honestly, i don't know who ate the cake, not me obviously!"

let's sing again!!!

yay!

"no, no, no corla, (as she says it) that's mines!"
(shelby thinks adding an s to mine seems to make it better)

daddy and his princesses. so much pink.

sugar high!

more presents! when it's your birthday, you don't have to wear pants. it's a rule.

my mom got really fun cards "from" richard and brett and naturally shelby was SO excited about the cards because there were kittens, stickers, sparkles, etc. on them. she possibly would have been happy with just the cards! it was hilarious. but grandma went to town and got her all sorts of crafts, princess toys, a barbie dream house and a remote control barbie convertible, all the barbie princesses, books, clothes, and shelby loved them all.

daddy looked cold. shelby to the rescue!

they are best friends.

and so you see, we are a happy fa-mi-ly!

time to play with the toys, they are pretty good at sharing.

this car is cool and all, but...

what a fun toy you are grandma!

during nap time later that week, shelby made all the "cupcake crafts" from her birthday presents. she was into it for a while, but eventually she got distracted and made me finish them.

we sent brett this awesome butterfly.

and we also played nonstop with her new little people castle.
when you put the princess on the button each one talks and sings her signature song. it. is. awesome.

i couldn't help myself and added the the superheroes too. shelby chose which princesses went with which new boyfriends. :)

i love birthdays!
