primary activity

september 9th 2011
during the summer our primary had a book of mormon reading program. so in september to celebrate all of their reading, we had a fun activity.

the best part was that the nursery kids were invited too!
yay for shelby's first primary activity!

such a big girl. time to listen!
bonnie, our primary president, did pretty much everything for the activity: a scripture themed scavenger hunt.

the kids sure love bonnie!

we split them into teams, with a parent or teacher leading each group and reading the clues.

they're off!
while the big kids were on their hunt...

the nursery kids had their own special clues to look for.

how cute are these kids?

the big kids were super jealous of their treats!

manna from heaven-oyster crackers
be fishers of men-fish crackers

noah's ark-animal crackers

all of the kids, big and little, eventually found the golden plates and got these little scrolls with the scripture: “Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do” (2 Nephi 32:3).

what a perfect first activity for shelby.
it was simple, there was food, and it was outside!
to say she was proud of her scavenger hunting skills is an understatement!

and she liked the scripture.

getting a chance to hang out with luke is always a good thing too!
even though the activity was on a saturday morning, the turnout was awesome. kids even came before and after their soccer games!

after the hunt was over it was time for a little food.
we had carrots, grapes, and chicken nuggets with 3 yummy dipping sauces. it seemed to me that the kids loved their lunch!

our primary is the cutest.
but where oh where is shelby?
enjoying her lunch maybe?

no way!
not when you can find a random rope and run laps around the pavilion! literally she ran at least 10 laps.

while the kids ate, the adults got to catch up.
(michelle, what were you and steven doing there? looks serious!)

anne and becky, discussing something....

jen and bonnie, probably talking about how jen is pregnant with her 4th child but is still willing to teach her busy sunbeam class!
jen is awesome!

oh look, shelby finally sat down.

nope, looks like she is trying to tie the rope to the table.

we love the pavilion and lawn at our building.
it's the best place for activities!!!

before they left we gave the kids one more treat.

popsicles!

they were the only thing shelby would stop and eat. she had 3.

they were a big hit!

but before we knew it,
the kids were doing their best to get into trouble.

who knows what these boys were up to here!

more popsicles please.

chatting with her friends.

what are they doing over there?

they were doing what kids always do at the end of a primary activity.

run around.

that's all, just running.

kids don't need much to have fun!

shelby was too busy hanging out with the older girls to bother with running around anymore. i overheard them complement her on her jeggings and shirt. one of the girls told me later that when she's a mom, she is going to dress her daughters in cool jeans like that too. yippee! i'm a cool mom! oh and also, cora was in the front pack for this entire activity, every picture was taken with her in front of me and i only bumped her head a few times with the camera. :) cora loves being in her carrier, it's how i get things done around the house too! she spent another few hours later that day in the bjorn while shelby was at a fun birthday party. it was definitely my workout for the week!

Stephen was actually working on his line ups for his game that started about 30 minutes after that point. Love all the pictures. I'm going to have to steal some of them from you.
