so Christmas morning 2010 was the most exciting one ever because it was shelby's first real Christmas where she understood that there were presents waiting for her. i made trevor video her walking down the stairs, but of course she cried and got mad at us so the image i created in my mind wasn't exactly what happened. :) she is not much of a morning person, just like her dad! but eventually she remembered what was happening was was quickly happy and excited.
we started off with the stockings, and shelby got jelly beans! she suddenly started loving them after we went to tithing settlement with the bishop and he gave her a few jelly beans. the candy was such a hit that she even hugged him when we left. now when we walked by the bishop's office she says "have jelly beans?"
pretty cute.
i just got her silly, fun things for her stocking like a fun ball that lights up and this little princess container and lunchbag. she loves to put things in bags and take them to rooms where they don't belong. :) oh and our pajama tradition continued with my mom getting us pajamas for Christmas morning. shelby's are tinkerbell Christmas ones and mine are fantastic, comfy maternity pajamas, a first for me on Christmas!
shelby's first present was a dvd of toy story 3 from me and trevor. it was the first movie she ever saw in the theaters so we had to have a copy of our own.
then she started opening her fun presents from grandpa curtis and grandma kathi! grandpa curtis is the photographer behind these pictures. it was fun to have them there and it was nice to have a simple, quiet Christmas morning! so here is shelby opening up her new fancy dress shoes. and immediately after tearing off the wrapping she jumped up and ran upstairs. i asked her where she was going and she said "to get a dress!" smart girl. we called her back though because we knew there was a dress in one of those presents from curtis and kathi.
but first we had to open the shoes. she loves shoes with heels exclusively so they are perfect.
here she is in her new rapunzel dress, putting on her new shoes. as you can see it's good to be the only grandchild on both sides. :) look at us with a video camera and 2 digital cameras going!
the feather shoes were her first choice. axel ate the feathers off the shoes a few days later. dumb cat.
beautiful!
gorgeous!
so cute i might pass out!
so after we finished the presents from the curtis and kathi (including blocks and a rapunzel barbie) we started on the gifts that trevor and i got for her. we tried to lower our expectations but we were still pumped about the gifts we got for our little girl. here's the story, shelby loves little einsteins, so we wanted to get her toys to go with the show. but, the show was canceled in 2009 (i didn't know either) and so the toys can only be found on amazon or ebay for way more than they are worth. like a $12 big jet was on ebay for $80. that wasn't happening. so trevor ordered a model jet kit and painted it to look just like the real thing. so cute. and i searched amazon for the best deals and got shelby 3 books and the little figurines of the einsteins and rocket for a pretty good deal. one of the books was "little red rockethood" which is her favorite episode because rocket is bringing "rocket soup" to his grandma rocket. she talks about it all the time. so here i am videoing her opening the einsteins books.
she was excited, not jumping up and down excited, but definitely happy about the books.
and trevor surprised me with a gift (our tradition is that we just buy things for ourselves for Christmas so we get exactly what we want and we don't have to wrap them.) but he went and got me something anyway! it is a video monitor that i totally wanted when shelby was a baby but i just never got around to buying it. now i can stalk this new baby girl to my heart's content!
awwww yeah. here's the big jet! she will still tell you, all these weeks later about how santa brought her a big jet. pretty awesome. it felt so good to get her something that she absolutely loved. trevor worked so hard on it, even painting yellow lines on it so that it was completely authentic. such a great daddy!
oh and here is rocket and the other little einsteins. she is stunned.
rocket is pretty great! yay for shelby's first Christmas! yay for being a mom and dad! it was so fun.
we had a great time shopping for trevor's parents this year too. we started pretty early in the season actually so that we could get them exactly what they wanted. curtis got golf balls with his name on them, new golf shoes, and a watch. kathi got a cute cream and pink sweatsuit and new slippers and a homemade calendar of course. we also framed a cute picture of them with shelby. it is such a great feeling when everyone loves the gifts you pick out! trevor's favorite part of Christmas by far is buying presents for other people and seeing their faces when they unwrap his gifts. he is so thoughtful!
after the gift giving was over, we had a simple breakfast of yummy pastries, orange juice, and fruit salad. then trevor and curtis napped while the girls had a Christmas movie marathon. we watched the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the Santa Clause, White Christmas (which richard got me as an early Christmas gift because it's our family's favorite movie and a serious tradition. it literally isn't Christmas until we watch it.) and finally, the Little Einsteins Christmas DVD while trevor and i made dinner.
and, big news, for the first time ever we used our china! wow! i was saving it for when the queen came, but oh well. (has anyone else seen that episode of friends?) we didn't use the crystal glasses that go with the china because we were too chicken. maybe next year. for dinner we had filet mignon (for curtis&trevor), fettucine alfredo (for kathi), green beans, rolls, and martinelli's. i was nervous about the fettucine because i made the sauce for the first time. it turned out okay, a little bland, but nothing salt couldn't cure. the dessert was raspberry pretzel jello "salad" (for me!), the kind with a layer of cream cheese/sugar/cool whip? i love it. so, i think our first time hosting Christmas at our house was a success! trevor and i were oh so happy to be at home, so we didn't mind cooking! let's do this every year!
after we recovered from dinner we all went to see tangled. it was super packed so we couldn't all sit together, but it was still fun. trevor and i took shelby to see tangled when it first came out and we loved it. (hence the rapunzel gifts she got for Christmas.) she is so good when we go to the movie theater, though with a combination of popcorn, m&m's, and a fun movie with mom and dad, it makes sense. curtis and kathi hadn't seen it yet, and they said they liked it too. what a fun thing to do on Christmas night! and also, just so i remember, thanks to rapunzel, i can now get shelby to sometimes let me do her hair! it's a big deal. and as a bonus she also loves to comb my hair "like rapunzel" which is so relaxing because it lasts for like 20 minutes.
Merry Christmas! once again i totally failed at getting good group photos or even one in front of the tree. arrrgggh. curtis and kathi really were there! :)
