alameda county fair

trevor, shelby, my mom, and i went to the alameda county fair on the first friday it was open. it was perfect weather and there were no crowds.
i had low expectations, but we had such a blast! the best part was a total surprise.
it was called: mutton bustin and it was hysterical!
basically it's a sheep rodeo for kids under 60 pounds.

the kids try to stay on as long as possible to get the best time.
the sheep go about 10-20 miles an hour.
and surprisingly they girl-boy ratio was pretty even.
there was even a 3 year old girl that tried!
luckily no one got hurt.
but it was sooo funny when they fell off.
maybe you had to be there.
but take my word for it, kids falling off sheep is hilarious. so they do this all over california at county fairs and then at the end of the year they take all of the top times and have those kids compete at the fresno fair. the winner gets a $100,000 dollar scholarship! wow. i wonder if shelby will be brave enough! crazy. look up the mutton bustin videos on youtube if you want to see for yourself.

but back to the rest of the fair. the best part was the animals, especially these bunnies.
they were all different colors.
but they were all cute
i wanted to hold this one, he looked soft.
but this one seemed a little snooty.
this one stood up to say hello and shelby was so excited.
wow! my camera made the bars disappear. cool.
and now i want a bunny real bad.
or maybe a bird
or possibly a goat?
no wait, i found what i wanted.
a baby bird!
ugh, so cute.
it was overwhelming.
thank you 4-h kids for bringing all of these awesome animals for us to enjoy!
shelby was very grateful. there was also two pigs with 2 day old piglets and a cow that was so huge and pregnant. my mom did 4-h when she was little, but she never raised animals because she couldn't have ever sold them! totally! i would have kept them all too!
daddy and shelby had fun getting treats at the fair.
mmmm fair food.
and we loved sitting on those foot massaging things enjoying the view.
grandma took shelby on the carousel
and it was the happiest day of shelby's life.
she didn't want to get off, so we left her there to live on the carousel.
hope she likes carnies!

oh, on a side note, thank goodness we didn't go to the fair last friday. the fireworks disturbed 2 nests of yellow jackets and 100 people got stung! scary! read about it here: yellow jackets attack!
