while we were at the beach house with my parents last week mom and i took shelby to dennis the menace park! the park has been open since 1956! my mom played there and has great memories. i remember playing there too! they have a little lake and paddle boats, which is a famous family joke because when brett was little he would scream from his car seat "paddle boats! paddle boats! PADDLE BOATS!" if he saw them and wouldn't let up until we all went out there. which we only did once. and as anyone who has been on a paddle boat knows, they are freaking torture. they look fun, right, but then you get out there and it's windy and specifically it's dad and a three year old brett in one so of course he can't help paddle at all. so it wasn't a funny at the time, but it is very funny now. and so after that we would always take the long way so we wouldn't pass it or we would distract brett so he couldn't see his beloved paddle boats.
so here is shelby in her new coat ready to run run run away from me.
while we were playing and shopping in carmel in 70 degree weather, the boys were golfing at the Pacific Grove golf course. trevor had never played it and naturally he shot a 66! HE IS AWESOME! the golf course is very special to our family because right next to it is a cemetery where my great grandparents are buried. they wanted the graves to be as close to a golf course as possible and they wanted to be able to hear them calling out the next foursomes up to tee off. they are my mom's mom's parents. they were from lodi, but they also built a home in carmel and would golf constantly together. he was a dentist and she was a nurse. pacific grove is also special because after college my grandmother taught elementary school there and lived at her parent's home in carmel before she married my grandpa and had my mom. anyways. a little family history.

Does Shelby's jacket come in my size?! I L.O.V.E. it!
And I can totally relate to your paddle boating experience. They are THE WORST! We rented some in SD and returned them 5 minutes later. The paddles don't really sit in the water far enough so you put out SO MUCH energy to go NOWHERE at all. Ugh!
