it's so fun to visit great grandpa lou. here are his beautiful tomatoes. homegrown tomatoes are unbelievably tastier than all others. grandpa actually used to grow them before they put in grapes. july and august are also when grandpa "puts up" pickles. i usually help him every year, but we didn't time it right! i was so sad. but we at least got to see them soaking in the cucumber stage.
shelby thought the cucumbers were great fun!
this year grandpa also put up some sweet pickles, not as good as his regular hot pickles, but still yummy.

the pickle recipe has been handed down through the generations and one tradition is that we put grape leaves on the top and bottom of the jars. we don't know if it does anything, but we sure don't want to chance it! also, it gives grandpa and i a chance to use our favorite joke. we always look at each other and say "where are we going to get enough grape leaves?" "are we going to run out?" "only two left!" well, it's funny to us since there are about 120 acres of grapes in the family.
they are going to start harvesting very soon and i hope to take some pictures of shelby among the grapes soon!
what's up there?
it's cousins in a tree!
look how jasmine is smooshing shelby's face.
my mom babysat mimi when they were growing up, mimi used to babysit me, i babysat her kids, and soon they will babysit shelby! yay for family!
