thursday feb 12th: shelby and i get sick anyway. so i call the pediatrician and they want to me to bring her in to get checked. we get the last appointment of the day at 6:45. the doctor gets nervous and says we should take her in to the emergency room on the off chance that it wasn't just a virus. (skipping ahead so no one worries-it was just a virus) so we were at the emergency room (me, trevor, shelby, my mom, my dad) for forever. i was running a fever by that point and we were all pretty unimpressed by the staff. they couldn't find shelby's vein (she has deep ones like her dad) and she was NOT happy about them holding her down. they ran a few other tests and we were all losing it listening to shelby's screams. but, at least her intensity tired her out and helped break her fever.
so we were finishing up and the doctor told us to "give her lots of fluids."
i said, "yes, of course, my pediatrician said to nurse her as much as possible."
he says, "but she needs more- like pedialyte or gatorade."
"um, gatorade?" i said.
"oh yes, people say pedialyte is better (the doctor rolls his eyes) but gatorade is just fine for her."
be proud that we all restrained ourselves, nodded politely and got the heck out of there.
but can you picture my face? oh yes doctor-man, i am going to give my infant child who has been exclusively and lovingly nursed for the last 6 months GATORADE! what medical school did you graduate from because they should take your degree back! that is why there are pediatricians and then there are general care physicians. (and you should have seen my pediatrician's face when i told her that little doctor-ly wisdom the next day. she was fuming....)
friday feb. 13th: shelby and i stay with my parents so they can take care of both of us. THANK YOU! (sorry to everyone who doesn't live by their mom and dad.) we went back to the pediatrician who still wasn't convinced that it was just a virus, so she ran some more tests. and now shelby officially hates the doctor's office.
saturday feb 14th: shelby's fever is gone. hooray. mom gets sick but is still tough stuff and taking care of everyone else!
oh and happy valentines day! trevor brings flowers that i get to arrange (one of my favorite things to do.) and he also brings a new baby einstein video for baby shelby! it is about neighborhood animals-including kitties, shelby's very mostest favorite animal!
maybe someday, she will make a funny/silly video like this one:
(thank you to the soup our favorite show for showing this and lifting our sagging spirits)
sunday feb 15th: my little girl is 6 months old! i had planned on starting solids, but we postponed it until she is feeling better. hooray for another few days of sweet sweet little diapers!
tuesday feb. 17th: shelby had her 6 month appointment (shots postponed to preserve my sanity) her height is in the normal range but her head circumference and weight are both in the 90th percentiles. yeah! though she did lose some weight during her illness, the doctor smiled and said going from the 96th percentile in weight to the 93rd is not something we need to worry about! :) fun fact: uncle richard and shelby had the same exact size head at 6 months old! those two are best friends for life!
expect fun and happy photo-filled posts again soon.

woah-Gatorade? Hmmmmm...don't think Mackenzi would be quite ready for that either! I wonder if the doctor realized Shelby's age???? I'm so glad Shelby's ok and everyone is getting better!
I'm so sorry to hear about your sick family. Glad to hear everyone is better.
oh my gosh! that's so sad. I'm glad shelby is okay though:)
